Glass bottom UV inkjet printer solution

Whether you call the old fashioned glass this way, or any of its other synonyms: rocks glass, whiskey glass, or even lowball glass, they are recognizable by their wide, thin rim and thick, flat bottom. For example, an old fashioned is a whiskey-based drink made by mixing sugar, bitters, and water and topped with a slice of orange.

Much like the rocks glass, the pint glass also features a flat bottom. A pint glass typically holds 16 ounces of liquid and has a tapered, straight rim. Pint glasses are primarily used for beer and hard cider and are usually made of glass. Shaker glass is another generic name that refers to the same container, the pint glass.

Digitally Decorating the Bottom of Printed Glass
These flat bottoms create a great opportunity for digital decoration using a UV printer. The PX-516 UV printer can reverse a mirrored print in one cycle to create a stunning, full-color print that is visible when the glass is tilted back for use.

Printing Innovations Mirror Printing
Mirror printing is a printing technique used to decorate cylindrical drinkware, allowing the artwork to be displayed from all angles. In mirror printing, the artwork is first printed in reverse, then a layer of white is printed over the design, and finally the artwork is printed on top of the white. For this to work properly, the outlines must be the same. However, the artwork facing inward does not need to match the artwork facing outward. Often mirror prints decorate the walls of drinkware.

UV inkjet printers use mirror printing
To decorate the bottom of transparent drinkware, a form of mirror printing is used. In this case, the artwork only needs to be visible on the inside, which is printed like a traditional mirror printing process. First, the image is digitally printed in reverse on the flat bottom of the substrate. Then, when drinking from the glass, the artwork is in the correct orientation. Reverse mirror printing is ideal for displaying the artwork to the viewer looking into the glass.
